1. Important recommendations
We have a few important recommendations that can make the difference between a nice and an amazing adventure:
- Do not follow cars just because they have stickers of La Ruta. Not every car with a sticker is an official staff vehicle.
- The course is well marked with official signs and painted spray arrows on the ground, roads, trees, rocks and walls. There are a lot of races here in Costa Rica and some uses the same sections of the course of La Ruta. Do not follow arrows or signs different from the ones showed in Day 0.
- Beware the traffic. Our race is supported by the Costa Rican Traffic Police, however the roads are not closed to regular traffic and we have to obey all traffic laws.
- People in Costa Rica are not very accurate when giving directions or when talking about distances. Please follow the official signs and/or ask the staff at the checkpoints about these matters.
- Please go to the Information Center when you have a question about shuttles, lunch, lodging, bikes, bags, services, schedules, emergency, Paramedics, etc. Our info staff has the data you need.
- We recommend you to arrive at least two days before the race and fly to the Juan Santamaria International Airport. International Airport Code is SJO, in San José, Costa Rica.
2. Consular paperwork and Vaccinations/Shots
- People from the following countries will need a Consular Visa to enter Costa Rica: Colombia, Ecuador, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Perú, Dominican Republic
- People from the following countries will need a Restricted Consular Visa to enter Costa Rica (Please notice the time needed for this formality): Haiti, Cuba
- People from both groups will be asked to book a roundtrip air-ticket
- People from South America and Panama will be asked to show a previously issued certificate (one month max.) as a proof of vaccination against Yellow Fever
